      Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information for Schools & Districts

      As an online school district and educational solutions provider, Florida Virtual School is committed to providing valuable resources for your school district in the weeks and months to come. 

      FLVS has prepared a variety of services, including free courses, teacher training, technical support for FLVS systems, and placement of students in case of school closures and/or overflow to your district virtual schools. For questions regarding options available to your school/district, please contact your District Relations Manager.

      Teacher Training 1

      Virtual Teacher Training

      FLVS is offering virtual teacher training for COVID-19 to accommodate Florida school districts that wish to train their brick-and-mortar teachers in the FLVS online platform in the event teachers need to temporarily move to an online environment. This course is available for teachers who will be teaching in the County Virtual Schools

      Interested teachers should work directly with their school administration to express interest in the Virtual Teacher Training for COVID-19 course.

      Frequently Asked Questions about Virtual Teacher Training

      FLVS has prepared a Virtual Teacher Training for COVID-19 course specifically to accommodate Florida school districts that wish to train their teachers in the FLVS online platform in the event teachers need to temporarily move to an online environment.

      Superintendents who are interested in offering their teachers the Virtual Teacher Training for COVID-19 should work with their County Virtual Principals to provide a list of teachers to FLVS. See How to Enroll FAQ below for instructions on how to submit your list of teachers.

      NOTE for Charter Schools: Superintendent approval is not required for Charter Schools in the registration process, and it is not necessary to contact your County Virtual School principal.

      The Florida Department of Education is offering $200 stipends to the first 10,000 state-certified teachers who successfully complete the training.

      County Virtual School and Charter School principals will determine which teachers will be eligible for the training, and can submit a list of all qualified teachers from their district using the instructions in the How to Enroll FAQ below.

      In addition, teachers who complete the training successfully can apply the new skills to teach at their district’s County Virtual Schools that are an existing FLVS Franchise.

      We thank every teacher for expressing interest in the Virtual Teacher Training for COVID-19. All interested teachers should work directly with their County Virtual School principals or Charter School Principals to express interest in taking the six-hour course.

      County Virtual School and Charter School Principals should follow the enrollment instructions in the FAQ below. 

      How to Enroll in the Course

      County Virtual School principals and Charter School principals will determine which teachers will be eligible for the training. Principals who are interested in offering their teachers the Virtual Teacher Training for COVID-19 should follow these guidelines to register their teachers:

      • Public Schools with an established FLVS Franchise: County Virtual School Principals, with the approval of your Superintendent, please submit your list of eligible teachers following the steps below.
      • Charter Schools: Superintendent approval is not required for Charter Schools in the registration process, and it is not necessary to contact your County Virtual School principal.
      • Florida Schools without an FLVS Franchise Affiliation: Principals who are not currently working with Florida Virtual School are encouraged to contact our District Relations Managers to discuss solutions and options available for their schools.
      • Non-Florida Schools: School administrators and principals who are looking for online school solutions are encouraged to contact us for more information.

      100 Free Digital Courses

      COVID-19 Educational Relief Emergency Service

      Florida Virtual School is providing 100 free digital courses to all Florida schools for Florida students through the end of the school year as educational relief to the COVID-19 pandemic for grades K-12 on select Learning Management Systems (LMS).

      Courses will be available as an emergency service in response to COVID-19 for free from March 25 through June 30, 2020. Public school districts, charter schools, and private schools must contract with FLVS by May 31, 2020.

      To take advantage of this educational emergency relief service, district/school administrators should contact their FLVS District Relations Manager.

      Frequently Asked Questions about 100 Free Digital Courses

      All schools must provide an approximation of the number of students who will be using the FLVS courses for COVID-19 relief to start the contractual process. 

      FLVS Franchises - County Virtual Schools will automatically receive contract amendments for March 25 - June 30, 2020.

      Districts/Schools with LMS - Florida schools that are hosting FLVS digital courses on select LMS platforms (other than FLVS LMS) must provide a course list of up to 100 courses they would like to host from the FLVS Course Catalog of approximately 130 digital courses.

      Yes, FLVS digital courses meet Florida Standards.

      FLVS, the district and its schools, is accredited by Cognia and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). SACS CASI is an accrediting division of Cognia.

      FLVS digital courses will be available on select LMS platforms which include:

      • Blackboard (Ultra and Version 9.1)
      • Brightspace (Versions 9 and 10)
      • Buzz
      • Canvas
      • Moodle (Version 3.1 or higher)
      • Schoology

      For grades K-12, only FLVS developed courses will be available which include select core courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, electives, and career and technical education (CTE) courses. A catalog of approximately 130 courses is available to select up to 100 courses for each district, charter school, and/or private school.

      FLVS digital courses will be available as an emergency service in response to COVID-19 from March 25 - June 30, 2020.
      At this time, we ask all the individual teachers to work directly through their principals and district administrators to take advantage of the emergency service for the 100 digital courses.

      Certain restrictions apply for the COVID-19 Education Relief service:

      • Only available to Florida schools and Florida students.
      • Only valid for new student enrollments related to COVID-19 school disruptions.
      • Courses are limited to 100 per school district, charter school, and/or private school.
      • Courses are limited to course content only. Courses hosted on non-FLVS provided LMS platforms do not include assessments.
      • Additional service fees and restrictions may apply to services beyond access to digital courses.
      Yes, FLVS will adjust existing contracts for all FLVS Franchise partners for new student enrollments that are registering because of the COVID-19 pandemic from March 25 through June 30, 2020.
      FLVS is rapidly expanding its server capacity to accommodate up to 2.7 million Florida students by May 4, 2020.

      Tracking new and returning students for COVID-19 is required for accurate reporting and accountability.

      Public School Districts, Charter Schools, and Private Schools

      All students who are using FLVS courses for COVID-19 must be tagged, labeled, and/or tracked as COVID-19 to receive the FLVS courses for free. School Districts/Schools are required to provide FLVS proper documentation on students and enrollments related to COVID-19 relief.

      FLVS Franchises

      County Virtual Schools are required to track new and returning students in the FLVS Virtual School Administrator (VSA) if students are taking courses specifically because of COVID-19 concerns.

      To track COVID-19 students, virtual teachers must select “COVID-19 Student Support Project” in the Student Data Confirmation page under the Disaster Relief Campaign section.

      Additionally, teachers must select “Yes” for the Disaster Field after selecting “COVID-19 Student Support Project.”
